GAINESVILLE- Pixologie Digital Solutions finds photo for local museum of African-American veteran and Washington, D.C. community leader, who served in several wars including World War I.
Pixologie Digital Solutions President Dawn Overbye recently uncovered a photograph of a war hero for the Freedom Museum in Manassas, VA. The museum had acquired the military memorabilia of Capt. Sylvester H. Epps, but had no corresponding picture to go along with the display. Capt. S. H. Epps was a Captain in the District of Columbia National Guard, and during WWI his regiment was assigned to the French 157th “Red Hand” Division. This assignment is the only instance in history where American troops were officially authorized by the government to serve in the armed forces of another nation. Capt. Epps’ French helmet is among the items displayed at the Freedom Museum.
Despite acquiring the military memorabilia of Capt. Epps, no photo of the veteran could be found. The Freedom Museum requested Dawn Overbye of Pixologie Digital Solutions find a photograph of Capt. Epps. After an exhaustive search, Dawn was able to locate a photo in Elk Lodge # 85 in Washington, D.C., and was able to create a digital version of the photo, so that many others might be able to see the photo of this leader along with his possessions.
Of the photo discovery, Mr. James Porter, the president of the Freedom Museum said:
“It is great to have an image to show people. Several have seen it (the picture) and were impressed. You (Dawn Overbye) have succeeded where others have failed.”
