Metadata! It some-how sounds like it has something to do with robots when I just hear the word.”Hello, dealing with metadata here…” (said in a robot voice of course). What it really means is the data that is attached to digital files.

The information that can be attached is varied. When talking about photo digital files it can include a few things. Where it was taken, the day and time, what kind of camera it was taken with if it is a photo. The size of the file. The settings even on the camera. What is more useful than some of that is that you can attach information yourself.

Adding things like who is in the photo or other personal information that would be important to you and your family members. You can give the photo a star rating so you can later sort out files with a certain number of stars. You don’t even have to use the stars for ratings but maybe, child number 1 is one star, child number 2 is two stars…

Maybe your mom’s family is 3 stars… you can decide what the number of stars means. I save the 5 stars for my very favorite special photos.
