Storing

Storing your Family Memories

Having your photos stored in multiple places is the key to not losing your collection. Having all printed photos in one location risks loss due to burst plumbing, flooding, mold, fire etc. Having all of your digital photos on one computer or phone means you could lose your collection  to mechanical malfunction (who hasn’t had a motherboard die, or lost a phone due to water damage?!).

We at Pixologie Digital Solutions suggest you have your collection saved in multiple places and ways. Printed photos are a good way to store photos. Kept safely, many can keep their integrity for many years. Digital photos are another amazing way to store photos, proper tagging and organization gives you the ability to share and find photos with a few taps of a keyboard.

We suggest a minimum of 3 copies of your collection:

  • Home Computer: Your main computer you use daily and keep up to date with any new photos.
  • EHD (External Hard Drive): a hard drive that you plug into your computer and backup regularly to catch new photos.
  • Cloud service: A place you upload your photos to that is backed up multiple times in an organized way to ensure your data can’t be lost. (my suggestion is www.forever.com). All cloud based services are not the same. Read the fine print! You don’t want to put your time and effort into storing your collection on one, and find out they can delete your photos whenever they want! On some of them, if miss a payment your photos are deleted! Learn more about ‘The Cloud’ in our blog here.

Forever.com storage:

Forever is a revolutionary business that has taken cloud storage to a new level. Instead of paying a monthly or yearly fee to store your files, at Forever you pay for the amount of storage you need and it is yours “forever”, your lifetime plus 100 years. With this you can pass your photos to the next generation with your captions and faces tagged. It is the only way we have found to safeguard your collection with the option of others inheriting your files.

Unlike the other popular options, Forever does not make money by selling your information and does not allow data mining. The files are not compressed,so they are kept in the size you upload so from now until “forever”. You OWN your storage so there is also no fear of your files being deleted. If you read the fine print of the other sites that is a stated possibility without notice even being given!

Lastly, the thing that truly sets this company apart is that they put a portion of your storage costs into a trust. This trust is set up to convert your files to “the next thing”. We no longer use 3.5” floppy discs or any number of other previous formats.
